Sandstone (copper ore)
Lithogenous sedimentary rock.
This sample is a quartz sandstone cemented with copper mineral (chrysocolla) matrix.
The original rock was lithified dune sand of the Jurassic-age Navajo Sandstone. The copper was deposited by groundwater, filling in pores spaces between the sand grains.
This sample came from an abandoned copper mine tailing pile near Page, Arizona. |
